GLP-1 Agonists [Update, Prescribing, Managing Complications, Pre-Endoscopy Recommendations, Future Pipelines, MASLD]

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the current role of GLP-1 receptor agonists in clinical practice
  • Recognize and manage common gastrointestinal adverse effects and peri-endoscopy considerations associated with GLP-1 receptor agonists.
  • Explain the Health Canada indication for semaglutide (Wegovy) in non-cirrhotic MASH with F2–F3 fibrosis
  • Review emerging GLP-1–based therapies and combination approaches in development for MASLD/MASH

Dr. Sasha High is an Internist and Obesity Medicine Physician and Founder of the High Metabolic Clinic, a multidisciplinary obesity medicine clinic providing evidence-based care across Ontario. She leads a team of 18 obesity medicine physicians and allied health professionals, with a focus on clinical care, program development, and physician education.

She completed medical school and residency at the University of Toronto. Her areas of expertise include obesity medicine, metabolic health, women’s health, disordered eating and behaviour change.

Dr. High is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto, an experienced CME speaker, and a mentor to physicians in obesity medicine across Canada and the United States. As a Digital Opinion Leader, she translates emerging evidence in obesity care into practical education for healthcare professionals and the public. She is also the host and creator of The Obesity Doctor Podcast.
