Recipient of the OAG Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Florence Wong, MD

The Ontario Association of Gastroenterology (OAG) is delighted to recognize Dr. Florence Wong with the OAG Distinguished Service Award for her extraordinary contributions to hepatology, patient care, research, education, and mentorship.

Dr. Wong is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Throughout her distinguished career, she has advanced our understanding of decompensated cirrhosis and portal hypertension. With more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Wong has transformed our understanding of the hepatorenal syndrome, leading to advances in patient care worldwide. She has also been a trusted resource for gastroenterologists across Ontario in the management of patients with complicated ascites.

Her exceptional contributions have been recognized with the European Association for the Study of Liver International Recognition Award (2026), the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease Distinguished Achievement Award (2023), and the Canadian Association for the Study of Liver–Liver Canada Foundation Gold Medal Award (2019).
